Bernese Midlands farmhouse (17th c.)Around 1800, linen weaving became an additional source of income in the Emmental. The weaving workshop was located in the cellar and occupied the entire household. Above, the dwelling was in two parts with a common kitchen. One side was intended for the older generation, the other for the young heirs of the farm.
