Silvaplana, on the lake of the same name, has become a mecca for sailing sports due to the regularity and quality of its winds.
Kitesurfing, windsurfing, Fireball or simple kite, anything that plays with the wind is king... Even without practicing these sports, the spectacle alone is worth the trip!
But the wind is not the only asset of Silvaplana, from where you can take the cable car up to the Corvatsch, at 3303m above sea level, to hike in summer, ski in winter, and admire the lakes, the valley and the Alps in any season.
As in the rest of the Upper Engadine, Silvaplana used to speak Putèr, one of the Romansh dialects, but here too the usage has gradually been lost and nowadays two thirds of the inhabitants speak an Alemannic dialect and Putèr, with just over 10% of speakers, has even been overtaken by Italian, spoken by 16% of the population.
When we passed through on a windy day with a threatening thunderstorm, we were fascinated by the aerial ballet on the lake and, in truth, only walked through the village to linger on the shores.
We'll probably go back at some point and climb up to the Corvatsch and bring you back another crop of images!
