It is the capital of the northernmost of the Swiss cantons, the only one to be located on the right bank of the Rhine, which in the north of Switzerland forms the natural and political border with Germany.

Situated just outside the old town, atop a hill whose south and south-west facing slopes are covered in vines, the Munot fortress is a castle well worth a visit.

The Munot is a circular artillery fortress of impressive dimensions, topped by a keep. It was built in the 16th century and restored in the 19th century.

At the top of this kind of pie, the vast space offers a breathtaking view of the city, but don't miss exploring what's underneath, a huge cavern where skylights give magical atmospheres!

A stone's throw from the Munot, Schaffhausen's old town, with its typical houses, oriels and the Abbey of All Saints, is a real delight, a feast for the eyes. Much of it is in a pedestrian zone, so it's a real pleasure to walk around.

And don't miss tasting the wines of the Blauburgunderland ("Land of the Pinot Noir"), which are famous: the canton of Schaffhausen has also 480 hectares of vineyards, with a mix of pinot noir for the reds and riesling x sylvaner for the whites.
