Set in a picturesque mountain scenery, Courmayeur is an attractive year-round destination. Located at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif on its Italian side, it is a famous ski resort in winter, and a hikers paradise in summer.
Three kilometres further north is the lesser known village of Entrèves. It is from here that the Skyway Monte Bianco leaves, a few hundred metres from the entrance to the Mont Blanc tunnel, which allows you to reach the Chamonix valley in France.
The photos on this page were not taken in Courmayeur but at Mont Fréty (intermediate station of the Skyway) and Pointe Helbronner (top station). They are excerpts from a panoramic report that we made in June 2022.
The Skyway Monte Bianco is an engineering masterpiece with a large cabin that rotates 360° during the journey, offering extraordinary panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif and the valleys. The rotation is slow, almost imperceptible, the effect is magical.
The first section takes you up to 2173m, to the Pavillon du Mont Fréty and its magnificent botanical garden. Then the second section takes you to Pointe Helbronner, at almost 3500m, in a landscape of rock and ice that offers views not only of the summit of Mont Blanc but also of spectacular peaks and glaciers.
