This small town lies at the very end of the Obersee (or Überlingersee), the northwestern branch of Lake Constance. It forms a municipality with the small town opposite, Bodman, which gave its name to the Bodensee, the German name for the lake.

The two villages lie opposite each other on the shores of the lake, surrounded by green ridges and separated by a nature reserve, in an idyllic natural landscape.

A network of hiking trails and the direct location on the lake provide ideal conditions for a variety of outdoor activities on land and water, with numerous excursion destinations.

Ludwigshafen was once called Sernatingen, a name first mentioned in a document from the 12th century. From 1800 onwards, the village enjoyed a flourishing period thanks to trade. In 1826, the harbour "Ludwigshafen" was opened and the village was renamed at the request of the inhabitants.

The Zollhaus building and a crane in the harbour date from this period and look out over a lakeside promenade which invites you to stroll and swim.
