Just above Noës, the first hamlet on the road from Sierre to Montana-Crans is nestled among the vines, offering passers-by the fleeting sight of a pretty chapel next to an odd modern church.
Corin is actually a collection of tiny hamlets that were once part of Montana. There's Corin-du-Milieu, Corin-d'en-Bas and Corin-de-la-Crête, but not much remains of the original hamlets, whose magnificent location has led to a building boom...
The famous Valais writer S. Corinna Bille (1912-1979) chose her pen name as a tribute to her mother, a peasant woman from Corin. Her work, tinged with fantasy, captures the Valais of yesteryear, which can sometimes be found along the old ways.
Today, Corin is a hamlet where half a dozen winegrowers still produce excellent vintages, but it is above all a place of residence and passage. It's well worth stopping off for a wine tasting or just to discover its old chapel and its modern church with its magical lights.
