Doubs River

The Doubs is a 453km-long river in the Jura region, rising near Mouthe at an altitude of 945m and flowing into the Saône at Verdun-sur-le-Doubs at an altitude of 175m.

Most of its course is on French territory, but a small part flows through Switzerland, with part of its course straddling the border between the two countries.

This is a very surprising river. Sometimes it widens and becomes a lake, sometimes it slips between cliffs, sometimes it flows lazily as it meanders. It even becomes a cascade at Saut du Doubs, the highest waterfall in the Jura.

The Doubs flows through towns steeped in history, such as Saint-Ursanne, Dole and Morteau, which are well worth a visit. The river can be considered a tourist destination in its own right!

During our travels in the Jura mountain range, we passed through various places bathed by this emblematic river. All of these places had a magical quality, and we'll no doubt be returning to the region to bring you more.
Highlights Please note: This is just a selection of the places we visited during our visits to the Jura region. There are many other places to discover along the Doubs.
